Why You Need a Learning & Development Program

Many operators view learning initiatives as ‘nice to have’ instead of ‘must have’ in their organizations. But the workplace landscape has and is changing.

Here are some compelling reasons to establish a strong learning & Development framework at your company:

  1. 60% of roles are projected to not require a formal degree by 2030. Will candidates arrive with all the skills and expertise needed to succeed in their roles, or will they require internal development?
  2. 82% of managers get promoted with no formal training. They may have natural leadership instincts, but without awareness of compliance, best practices, and the right tools, that gap can hurt risk management, productivity, and retention.
  3. Many employees are ‘job hugging’ or staying put, in contrast to ‘The Great Resignation’ of 2021-2022. If that’s true in your industry and locality, do they have opportunities to continuously improve within your organization?
  4. AI, economic realities, and company evolution are changing the way we do our work. Who is trained? What new positions need to be developed?
  5. Up to five generations may be contributing to your mission and goals. What’s the plan for career mapping? What’s the plan for when valued contributors retire?

Want to talk about how to build a learning & development program? We can help!

How Are You Assessing Candidates’ Skills?

When resumes and interviews leave you second-guessing, a well-designed skills assessment can give you the objective signal you’ve been missing.

Done well, it shortens time-to-hire and surfaces strong candidates. Done poorly, it opens the door to bias claims and legal exposure.

A few ground rules we walk our clients through:

  • Tie every assessment directly to the job. If the skill isn’t in the job description, it doesn’t belong on the test.
  • Use the same assessment for every candidate at the same stage.
  • Consistency is your best defense against adverse-impact claims.
  • Skip personality quizzes and IQ-style tests unless they’ve been professionally vetted for discrimination.

When Someone Leaves, Do You Know the Plan?

Every organization has an org chart. Not many have a plan for what happens when a key person leaves it.

Org structure, workforce planning, and succession planning are one conversation.

The chart shows who sits where today. Workforce planning asks if that structure still fits your direction. Succession planning asks what happens when a critical seat opens, planned or not.

The employers who handle this well have taken the time to answer a few honest questions:

  • Which roles would cause real disruption if vacant tomorrow?
  • Who has the skills and drive to grow into more responsibility?
  • Are we investing in them, or just hoping they stay?

A lot of employers get tripped up by that last question.

Identifying high-potential employees is easy. Building real development around them (training budget, mentorship, clear career map) is much harder. Skip this investment, and your best people stagnate or leave for someone who will develop them.

Start small: pick two or three critical roles. Now ask yourself: Who could step in today? Who could with six months of development? That exercise alone tells you more than any org chart ever will.

Need help mapping your structure, identifying succession risks, or building a development program? Our team of consultants is here to help!

Pre-Employment Screening

Skills Look Good on Paper. Screening Confirms Them.

Skills assessments tell you what a candidate can do today. Pre-employment screening verifies the skills on their resume. Both matter, and they work best together.

Where we see clients get the most value:

  • Confirm the degree, license, or certification as part of your pre-employment screening process, not on the employee’s first day.
  • Conduct professional reference checks or employment verifications.
  • Match the depth of the background check to the risk of the role. A finance lead needs more than a warehouse coordinator.

Book a free 30-minute consultation with our team to see whether your screening process is where it needs to be.

Thank you so much for being a part of everything we do.
