Nong’s Khao Man Gai is a Portland favorite, not only because of their iconic Thai chicken and rice but also because the owner, Nong Poonsukwattana, is an inspiring figure who constantly evolves and expands her business model.
Since moving to the US in 2003, Nong has scaled a modest food cart with one dish into multiple restaurants and put her famous sauce on grocery shelves around the NW. Her joyful and unforgettable personality have led her to opportunities to compete on Food Network’s Chopped and the stage of TedX Portland where her passion for food and community was palpable to everyone watching.
After restaurants were forced to cut back on service due to Covid-19, Nong took that as an opportunity to innovate further and has started offering peanut sauce and house made pickles in addition to chicken and rice sauce and the regular food menu. All these items are available for pick up at the SE location or via Caviar, Doordash and Ubereats.
